In the 19th century, science and technology experienced a new expansion. Innovations and discoveries which appeared in the field of optics, movement, mechanics and chemistry enabled the Lumière brothers to design a technical and cultural revolution: cinematography.
Born in Lyon and part of the heritage of the city, the invention of the cinema is at the confluence of art and science and also of industry. It has given birth to a new form of leisure which persists to this day.
An exhibition designed by the Institut Lumière and produced by the Musée des Confluences.
This exhibition was initially produced in 2015 with the support of the CNC (Centre national du cinéma et de l'image animée / National Centre for Cinema and the Moving Image), the Greater Metropolitan Area of Lyon, the Region of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, the City of Lyon and the Region of Ile-de-France.
